At Toybox we believe children should eat a wholesome, balanced diet. Our healthy and nutritious meals are freshly prepared on site using fresh produce
Meal times at Toybox are about more than simply what our children eat. It is about the understanding of where food comes from and how we grow it. Our cookery and gardening activities help to educate children on the benefits of healthy eating and support the development of good habits that will accompany them when they go to school.
Developing the social aspect of meal times is also important to establish good eating habits which is why our children and staff sit down together to have a ‘family-style’ meal and promote good table manners.
Children have up to three main meals during their nursery day, depending upon the times they arrive and leave. Drinks and healthy snacks are also available throughout the day and our older children are encouraged to help themselves from low level refreshment tables.
For our younger babies we offer a weaning menu which has healthy and tasty alternatives of pureed food which are deemed appropriate for a child who is weaning. The cultural background and dietary requirements of every child is fully respected and we work with parents to ensure that their child's individual needs are catered for.
Our lovely cook Marina enjoys spending time with the children during the times she’s away from the kitchen. Marina works closely with the staff and parents to provide a menu which meets the needs of all children.
Marina has been with us for over 2 years, cooking delicious meals for all of our children. Marina has her Level 2 in food and hygiene and is a qualified paediatric first aider.
Marina puts her love for food into everything she cooks, from a rich and delicious cheese and potato pie to the swirls in
the spaghetti for a Bolognese!
Marina has also recently completed a "Menu Training" programme with Startwell.
The Importance of Starting Well
Here at Toybox we are here to help encourage your child to eat healthily and move more in the very early years of their life.
Early life experiences of a healthy lifestyle can make a big difference to the types of foods that your child will choose and the amount and types of activity that they do throughout
life.
Toybox Day Nursery proudly works alongside Startwell to ensure that all children have the very best start in life. The Startwell programme is based around 7 key messages to help Early Years settings, parents and health professionals create a healthier environment for their children and families.
Sign up on the Startwell website to receive regular updates about early years healthy eating and physical activity.
