At Toybox we believe children should eat a wholesome, balanced diet.
Our healthy and nutritious meals are home-cooked on site using fresh produce
Meal times at Toybox are about more than simply what our children eat. It is about the understanding of where food comes from and how we grow it. Our cookery and gardening activites help to educate children on the benefits of healthy eating and support the development of good habits that will accompany them when they go to school.
We have been Rewarded with a Level 2 in Startwell and are currently working very closely with the Startwell team to achieve our Level 2!
Developing the social aspect of meal times is also important to establish good eating habits which is why our children and staff sit down together to have a ‘family-style’ meal and promote good table manners.
Children have up to three meals during their nursery day, depending upon the times they arrive and leave. Drinks and healthy snacks are also served and the older children are encouraged to help themselves from low level refreshment tables.
For our younger babies we offer a weaning menu which has healthy and tasty alternatives of pureed food appropriate for a child who is weaning. The cultural background and dietary requirements of every child is fully respected and we work with parents to ensure that their child's individual needs are catered for.
Our lovely cook Marina enjoys spending time with the children during the times shes away from the kitchen. Marina works closely with the staff and parents to provide a menu which meets the needs of all children.
Marina has been with us for the last two years, cooking delicious meals for all of our children. Marina has her Level 2 in food and hygiene and is a qualified paediatric first aider.
Marina puts her love for food into everything she cooks, from a rich and delicious cheese and potato pie to the swirls in the spaghetti for a bolognese!
